What is a wiki?

A wiki is a collaborative collection of interlinked web pages, all of which can be visited and edited by anyone at any time. You could even edit this page by clicking the "edit" link, the third tab at the very top of this page, or edit only a section by clicking on "[edit]" to its right. If you don't have anything to add or correct on this page and you just want to see how it works, try making some test edits in the Sandbox. See wiki and the Editing FAQ for more on wikis and editing.

What is Alleypedia?

Alleypedia is a free, open, collaborative encyclopedia for the english-language publishing industry that anyone can edit and improve. If you're in any way connected to the industry, you have a place at Alleypedia.

What are the aims of Alleypedia?

Alleypedia's goal is to create a free universal encyclopedia for the publishing industry, the largest in publishing history, both in terms of breadth and depth, and to become a reliable resource. It's an ambitious goal which will probably take many years to achieve.

How can I contact Alleypedia?

Although this is a hugely collaborative project, it's administrated by the folks at writeralley™ and you can contact them via the Alleypedia helpdesk. If you want to communicate with a specific user, leave a message on their talk page; you can find a list of personal pages (and link to your own). Many Alleypedians also have registered their email addresses, which you can use by clicking the "Email this user" link from the personal pages. Finally, if you're looking to talk about a specific module or page, the best place to put your comments is on that page's Talk page. Use the discuss this page link in any module to get to the talk page. Every page has a talk page, even this one, so there is always a way to discuss the content with others.

How do you know if the information is correct?

  • As anyone can edit any page, it is of course possible for biased, out-of-date or incorrect information to be posted. However, because there are so many other people reading the modules and monitoring contributions using the Recent Changes page, incorrect information is usually put right quickly.
  • Thus the overall accuracy of this instructional resource is improving all the time as it attracts more and more contributors. You are encouraged to help by correcting articles and passing on your own knowledge.
